Outdoor Weather Resistant Flooring Options That Don’t Require Constant Maintenance

Everlast® Epoxy vs Neverlast Flooring Episode 7

When it comes to outdoor weather resistant flooring, the majority of outdoor flooring solutions cannot handle the tough exposure often experienced by flooring systems that are exposed to the elements. The result is eventual chipping, cracking, discoloring, and erosion. To top it off, most flooring manufacturers claim that their systems will last outside… when they don’t.

“What about UV-resistant epoxy flooring?”

We hear this all the time. Being an epoxy floor manufacturer… I do not recommend epoxy when it comes to outdoor floors.

Although there are many companies that claim to have UV-resistant epoxy flooring, when put to the test, they last for a very short time. You often need to sand the floor down and re-apply the coating after a couple of years.

The problem is not that certain manufacturers are using low quality epoxy… it's just that epoxy is not designed to handle UV rays in general. Its a bad material overall for outdoor use.

After only a few months, many epoxy outdoor floors start to yellow, i.e. they are slowly losing their strength, and rocks start popping up because the material is failing.

And the sad thing is that most people just accept that their floors will be ugly and need to be fixed every couple of years.

There Are Two Types Of Epoxy Outdoor Material Manufacturers

1. A manufacturer that promises its waterproof outdoor flooring option will not yellow, even when it does,
2. And those that KNOW it’s going to yellow and require you to complete maintenance work every couple of years.

The maintenance crew needs to clean off the loose rocks by sanding it down and then recoat your traditional pebblestone floor. That should last you another 2 years. But it starts to yellow quickly and you can’t recoat it until it’s become almost white.

So, you need to calculate how much it will cost you to have your floor recoated every two years when you estimate the cost of installing an epoxy-based outdoor flooring system.

It’s important to understand the real cost of value shopping. You cannot look at the initial installation price alone. You need to factor in the cost of maintaining the floor over the years… not to mention the beauty cost of having a floor that starts to become yellow and then white.

Now Let's Look At The Everlast® Outdoor Tough System

When it comes to swimming pool deck flooring, if you’re using traditional Cool Deck material around your pools, it will crack and develop heat bubbles… eventually the material will come off in patches.

Even the manufacturers of Cool Deck tell you to constantly repaint your deck. They tell you that you need to keep maintaining your Cool Deck material so it doesn’t break down.

With Everlast® Outdoor Tough, you don’t have to repaint or reseal the deck. It simply lasts you for a very long time.

As a bonus, there are numerous different color options for you to choose from.

You can also use the Everlast® Outdoor Tough polyavastic instead of epoxy for natural stone pebblestone or granite stone.

In fact, Everlast® Outdoor Tough pool flooring is so tough that it can handle prolonged exposure to pure chlorine. We sunk it into a bowl of chlorine for 14 days and left it there. It didn’t look any different and the weight was the same. This told us that there had been zero deterioration. And mind you, this was pure chlorine. The amount in your swimming pools is much more diluted.

And if you need a non-slip surface, you can go with the Everlast® Outdoor Tough quartz material. It’s like colored sand. It’s not rough enough to hurt your feet but it prevents you from slipping if water is on the surface.

And to top it all off, it is freeze/thaw resistant for those pools in regions that don’t have year-round summer conditions. The problem with many pebble systems is that water will accumulate between the pebbles. When the water freezes, it expands and starts popping up the pebbles.

So, It’s Beautiful And The Weather Doesn’t Faze It!
